The vote was advanced after a cloture move.
Air Force General Charles Quinton “CQ” Brown was confirmed by the Senate to be the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Brown was the Air Force Chief of Staff.
His confirmation, along with other military advancements and promotions, had been delayed in the Senate due to the Pentagon policy of providing paid leave to military service members to obtain abortions which violates the Hyde Amendment.
The Senate is also expected to confirm General Randy George and General Eric Smith to lead the Army and Marines, respectively. More than 300 senior military positions await confirmation.
